Daily Peaks ("we," "us," or "our") operates daily-peaks.com, an educational site about day hikes and weekend trails. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies when you visit the Site, subscribe to email updates, or contact us.

Analytics and performance measurement
We use analytics to understand aggregate readership: which guides are opened, how readers move between lanes, and whether mobile layouts perform adequately on slow connections. Analytics reports typically show us trends, not intimate personal profiles. We do not use analytics to determine whether you personally completed a hike safely, and we do not combine Site analytics with offline location databases to track you on trail.
Where we use third-party analytics providers, those providers process data under their own policies as processors or independent controllers depending on configuration. We configure retention settings conservatively where the platform allows.
Email marketing practices
If you join a mailing list, we store your email address, subscription source, and timestamps of sign-up and unsubscribe. We may track open and click rates at the aggregate level to improve subject lines and highlight guides readers find useful. You can opt out at any time; unsubscribed addresses are suppressed from future marketing sends.
Transactional messages related to security or legal notices may still be sent where permitted even if you opt out of marketing.

Contact data retention for privacy requests
We keep a record of privacy requests and our responses for compliance documentation, typically for a period allowed by applicable law, then delete or anonymize those records when no longer needed.
User-generated comments and public posts
If we enable comments or other interactive features, information you choose to post—such as a display name, comment text, trail anecdotes, or linked profile—may be visible to other visitors. Do not post personal data you are unwilling to make public, including other people's names, license plates, or precise live location during an active search. We may store comments on our servers or through a moderation vendor, retain edit history for abuse investigations, and delete content that violates our Terms of Use.
Comments are not professional trail advice. We may process comment metadata (timestamps, IP address, spam scores) to prevent abuse, enforce moderation rules, and comply with legal requests. If you delete a comment where the platform allows, residual copies may persist in backups for a limited period.
Affiliate links, advertising, and measurement
Some pages link to outdoor retailers or gear makers through affiliate programs. When you click an affiliate link, the merchant or network may set cookies or use similar technologies to attribute a purchase to Daily Peaks, subject to that partner's privacy policy. We do not receive your full payment card details from those transactions. Affiliate identifiers help us measure whether educational recommendations help readers find useful gear; they do not tell us whether you completed a hike safely.

Trail planning data and location privacy
Reading a guide about a specific trail does not require you to share GPS coordinates with us. We do not ask for live location to browse the blog. If you voluntarily email us a trip report, treat location details as correspondence we store only as long as needed to respond or improve an article, unless you grant broader permission in writing.
Third-party map embeds or retailer sites linked from our pages may collect location or device data under their own policies. Review those policies before granting location permissions in your browser or app.
